From time to time citizens ask what does the Fire Department do in its job related activities. Here is a list of tasks that the department is called upon to provide, depending on the emergency.
The Fire Department answers Fire Alarms, Carbon Monoxide Alarms, Chimney Fires, Forest and Grass Fires, Smoke Investigation, Structure and Motor Vehicle Fires, and checks Trees on Power Lines. We provide assistance with Motor Vehicle Accidents, Extrication, ATV Accidents, Airplane Crashes, Boating Accidents, Cold and Swift Water Rescue, High and Low Angle Rescue (ropes and harnesses), Snowmobile Rescue and wilderness/Mountain Rescue.
On numerous occasions the department has been called to assist with Bomb Scares, Haz-Mat Incidents, search for Lost People, Water Removal from Cellars, Water Flow Problems, Trench Rescue. Each of the above mentioned details involve the need for continuous training of personnel and updating of equipment. The Farmington Fire Department has an on-going training program supported by local and state instructors.
There are several fire fighters that are trained EMS personnel, Haz-Mat Technicians and many who are Fire Fighter I and II State Certified. The department is actively involved with Fire Prevention and Education in the local schools, congregate housing and local businesses. Tours, lectures and special classes have been held or can be arranged if needed.
